The Wendy Shimmer Ball is a prom like event to celebrate diversity and acceptance for the transgender community. Every year we pick a different location throughout the UK and invite people from the transgender community, as well as their loved ones along with the local community. Anyone who has reached a particular goal in their transition can opt into the Shimmer Book of the Year, with a photograph, a comment about their achievement and what it means to them. Most of all it's about everybody enjoying being ourselves in a safe and supportive environment.

The Wendy Shimmer came about for personal reasons for one of our elders, We want to extended this out to the greater community. Bekkis mum wanted to hold a big party after she had her gender confirming surgery to reintroduce her daughter to the world. Sadly she lost her battle with cancer before she could achieve this. She was a proud supporter of her daughter and to others travelling the same journey, so in her honour, we decided to fulfill her wishes and hold a party and extend the sentiment to the whole community. In her honour we decided to name the event after her, and the Wendy Shimmer Ball was born.

We want to organise this event to bridge the gap between the transgender community and the public. The main stream media are portraying the transgender community in a negative light the majority of the time. The event will show the community that we are not the scary people being portrayed. We are just people trying to live our lives. This event will give individuals a chance to be themselves in a safe environment, to connect people together, and give them even greater support along with celebrating their achievements throughout their transition.

The Wendy Shimmer Ball is a Black Tie/Ball Gown event and is ticket only. Each year a different venue will be chosen and the exact location will be witheld to help ensure the safety of those who wish to attend.
