"I’ve only been involved with Squirrel Friends for a little over a month. I was found and befriended by Claire Dunn, an elder squirrel when she happened across me on another Facebook Group. It was at a time when I was at a particularly low ebb, with now even my GP wanting nothing to do with my transgender issues. Since then I’ve been made very welcome by all, and it is clear, talking to all the “Elder Squirrels” that the group is far from being a vanity project (as some groups are) and is managed (and used) by people who really care, and really want to make a difference. In the time I have been with the group, it has nearly doubled its membership. The group run a very active Discord site, with very active chat rooms. It is evolving all the time with new rooms being added as members interests come to light. There is almost certainly an Elder Squirrel available to talk to via one of the chat rooms at most times of the day if I’ve needed to talk to someone. And of course, it would never be right without the Saturday night music quiz! In summary, Squirrel Friends has definitely helped me and I think I can say with some certainty has helped others. It is managed by people who care about what the do and care about others. I think this is the start of a great enterprise that has far to go."

"So squirrels found me about a year ago coming up. The lovely Bekki was chatting to me through another platform and directed me home. Im someone who quite late in life have pieced together that im in fact transgendered and although ive a lot of friends and family support they can only provide empathy and don't really know the issues i face. Squirrels has been a breath of fresh air for me. Other girls and guys going through the same things that i can chat too. The fab elder squirrel team who provide support to us when we need it and can actually sympathize with me and know and understand exactly what the issues are that i face. Squirrels is a much needed service to me and its thanks to the fab team that provide it ive got this respite in my life. "Simply, the girls within ‘Squirrel Friends’ have saved me life. Not once but twice. Their support for being a transgender human myself has being and is without doubt beyond words. I have seen them literally drive from one end of the country to the other to, simply give someone a ‘cwtch’ (cuddle). Not only that but their continued drive and determination to support the trans community (while dealing with their own daily life struggles) is beyond words. Through Squirrel Friends, I have made friends for life. Not like the usual support networks, what we have here is a family and a network of people all looking out for one another. I believe they deserve this award over anyone else because they are without doubt focused on the subject matter with care and compassion. It would be a shock not to see Squirrel Friends get through because there is simply no other group / organisation out there literally saving the lives of people like me.
